Circular economy: AI improves the efficiency of energy plants‘ waste utilisation

In the EU-funded AshCycle project, Ai4Value has developed an artificial intelligence solution that can be used to improve the utilisation of ash in concrete production by connecting ash providers and users. First version of the solution was ready in Autumn 2024 and now an extended version has been completed. In practice, the Ash Modeling Application, or AMA in short, is a circular economy platform in which ash producing plants publish available ash batches and ash utilising plants publish their ash needs.
Typically a certain batch of ash is not suitable raw material for all possible purposes, but the chemical composition of the ash must be taken into account when looking for suitable applications. In the analysis performed by the AMA solution artificial intelligence has proven its power: AMA2.0 complements the results of chemical tests by estimating the concentrations of compounds that may be missing from the analysis. In addition, it prepares an overall assessment of the possibilities of using the ash batch and proposes suitable utilisation purposes for each ash batch. AMA 2.0 also provides tools to optimize logistics costs and carbon footprint.
The solution makes waste reuse more efficient. In this way, waste becomes raw material and the company’s environmental footprint is reduced. AMA is a tool for companies that are, for example:
- Aiming to harness AI to improve energy efficiency during 2025
- Ready to implement AI to accelerate/complement/replace chemical analyses
- Looking for ways to optimize logistics
